Everything you need to run playground duty
DutyRound covers the whole job — building the roster, keeping it fair, reviewing and approving it, and managing the changes that arrive on the day.
01
Build the roster
Enter your school's normal rules once: who works which days, how much duty each person carries, your duty periods and their times, the areas needing supervision and the year groups who play there.
- Working days
- Nobody is rostered on a day they aren't at school.
- Duty workload / FTE
- Duty targets scale with each person's load.
- Duty periods
- Before school, recess, lunch sittings and dismissal, with real times.
- Duty areas
- Each area records how many staff it needs and which days it runs.
- Student locations
- Year groups linked to the areas they play in.
- Availability
- Duty times a person cannot take, for every week or a single day.
- Supervision requirements
- Staff numbers per area are always met.
02
Keep it fair
Duty is shared by load rather than headcount, so part-time and non-teaching loads are handled sensibly and nobody quietly carries the heavy end of the week.
- Duty-count balance
- Duties per person tracked against their target.
- Duty-minute balance
- A 40-minute lunch counts for more than a short gate duty.
- Part-time workload
- Proportional targets, never an even split.
- Sensible distribution
- Duties spread across days, duty times and areas.
- Targets and maximums
- A target to aim for and a hard maximum never crossed.
03
Review and approve
You stay in control of the result. Check it will work before generating, adjust anything by hand, and approve when the roster is right.
- Capacity check
- Required duty positions compared with what your staff can carry.
- Review exceptions
- Anything DutyRound could not satisfy is shown, not hidden.
- Manual adjustments
- Swap a person, or ask for another suggestion.
- Regenerate safely
- Intentional changes are preserved when you regenerate.
- Approve
- The roster becomes your school's regular roster.
- Weekly roster in standard or fit-to-one-page layouts.
04
Run the day
The Today screen answers the morning question: who is away, which duties need cover and who is covering.
- Mark unavailable
- For a single date, without touching the roster.
- Affected duties
- The duties needing cover are listed immediately.
- Eligible cover
- Suggestions respect the same availability rules.
- Casual for the day
- Added for that date only, not to your staff list.
- Print or copy
- A daily sheet, or the changes as plain text.
- Roster unchanged
- Your approved regular roster stays as approved.
